For each week of Lent, this calendar suggests a Mennonite-related organization to learn about, pray for, and give money to. You may note that some of the most obvious groups–such as Mennonite Central Committee, and our conference and denomination–are not listed here. The hope is that you can learn about some lesser-known groups engaged with service and justice work.


For the week of March 6: Brethren Mennonite Council for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender Concerns

Learn: There are lots of great resources on BMC’s website. Peace Mennonite is part of their Supportive Communities Network.

Pray: for the BMC director Carol Wise; for the board members; for other congregations who are part of SCN; for those congregations deciding whether or not to join SCN; for lgbtq+ people in Mennonite churches.

For the week of March 13: Community Peacemaker Teams

Learn: Read about the work of CPT on their website where you can even watch previous webinars. They also have an active Facebook page.

Pray: for the Administrative Team and Steering Committee; for each of their current programs: Columbia; Turtle Island Solidarity Network; Iraqi Kurdistan; Palestine; and Aegean Migrant Solidarity

Give: through their web site; note the mailing address at the bottom of the web page for those who prefer to mail a check


For the week of March 20: Mennonite Disaster Service

Learn: You can watch this video introduction to MDS and check out their year-in-review video as well. And of course, there’s lots of information available on their web site. You can also like their Facebook page.

Pray: for the MDS staff; for those served by MDS; and for the officers of the Kansas MDS unit.

For the week of March 27: Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery

Learn: about the coalition on their web site and sign up for their newsletter to get even more information. They also post regularly on their Facebook page.

Pray: for the work of current coalition members, including their first staff person, Katerina Friesen; for the campaign for Oak Flats; for our congregation and others seeking to make steps toward justice for indigenous people

For the week of April 3: MEDA

Learn: about this Mennonite organization seeking sustainable solutions to poverty worldwide on their website.

Pray: pray for MEDA staff and volunteers, and for their current projects around the world.

For the week of April 10: Mennonite Church USA Justice Fund

Learn: Last summer, MC USA began a justice fund to support Mennonite churches in their work for justice.

Pray: for an end to police violence in our communities; for the leadership of MC USA; for congregations engaged in justice initiatives; for the difficult work of anti-racism within our denomination.

Give: to the justice fund or other MC USA initiatives through the denominational website.
