Congregational Prayer:
You are invited to offer your prayers to God. For what are you thankful this morning? What would you ask of God for yourself? Who do you know who needs God’s loving presence right now? What are your prayers for our community, our country, and our world?
Feel free to share your prayers with people around you, in the comments below, or on our Zoom call at 11 Sunday morning.
And in yet another week of violence in our country, we offer prayers for peace:
Holy and loving God,
We cry “Peace, peace!” but there is no peace.
Hear our cries, O God.
Hear our cries for those wounded, traumatized, grieving
in the wake of forty-five mass shootings in the United States in the past month:
Indianapolis, Pensacola, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Chicago, Wichita, Seattle, Memphis, Fort Worth,
Milwaukee, Detroit, Birmingham, Dallas, Cleveland, Boulder, Philadelphia, Atlanta,
and towns whose names we’d never know except for the tragedies on the news.
Hear our cries for those wounded, traumatized, grieving
in the wake of police violence:
for those impacted by the trial of the officer who killed George Floyd;
for the renewed grief and outrage in the community after the murder of Duante Wright;
for the family, the friends, the neighbors of Adam Toledo, 13, shot dead;
for those who have come before and those fearful they will be next.
God, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Hear our prayer and guide our feet in the path of your justice–
the justice that will lead to true peace.
Amen.
